Hi Liz,

Medication is a personal choice however i do take tablets and i have found that taking my tablets at the same time each day and making sure i drink enough water helps...

Like most things in life we all have to do things that we hate or dislike, there is no reason why the tablets won't work if you take them correctly

i don't know if that helps

Hi Both,

there are lots of place to get help for self harm - there is a wonderful group called HUSH

HUSH ( Hidden Universe of Self-Harm) is a user-led self harm support group that currently operates 3 meetings a week at BowHaven Community Centre William Place Roman Road E3 5ED.
On Tuesdays we have a women only group between 2pm and 4pm.
On Fridays we have a meeting open to all members between 3pm - 7pm. Between 3-5pm we have a project development meeting and this slot is also used to establish training needs and access training when required; between 5pm- 7pm we have a social meeting where we partake in various activities and we have a meal together. Members can attend when and for how long they wish.

HUSH, also has a support line for self-harmers that goes directly to myself or one of my collegues. This is open to self harmers and carers 24/7. We have a Website www.hushproject.co.uk and can also be contacted by email hushproject@aol.com.

i hope this helps

kind regards

Posted Sun 27 Feb 2011 12:17 in What treatments have you found work for you?  »  piportil injections

dear forum members, i was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia 5 years ago, i,ve had about 4 admissions to hospital. on the last admission iwas diagnosed with this conditioned, however since then they put me on injections of piportil. i also have high blood pressure , because of the piportil injection it has led me to the menopause, which im now taking hrt tablets for . i also take calcium tablets for my bones , this is also due to the piportil injections, so im putting up with quite alot. i would however like to come off piportil injections, the doctors have said that they will put me on tablets. i also work in catering pt, and have 1 child. ive been ok since taking the medication but would like to come off it if possible, the nhs can be quite invasive one it comes to people in in the mental health system. i just dont want anymore injections and hpoefully the medication i take as tablets wont have so many side effects as the injections the doctors have said htat i might relapse if i dont take the tablets, has nyone any ideas about how to look after myself better if iwas to come off injections ,and just take tablets, i dont even like taking all these tablets. but i supposed i have been ok for the last 5 years. this dose,nt help.

Keep your eyes opens for jobs advertising PALS Officer posts, normally you’d find then on NHS Jobs. You might also consider volunteering and some NHS organisations offer this opportunity. Another route into PALS could be via the voluntary sector with organisations such as Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB), Mind, Social Action for Health, Arthritis Care etc.

Good Luck

Posted Thu 25 Nov 2010 03:52 in Joycelyn Boyce  »  whats the difference

The main difference is that PALS endeavour to resolve issues on the spot, dealing with concerns informally. PALS is a confidential service providing information on a whole range of subjects such as Benefits, Housing, Sexual Health, Mental Health, Conditions, Support Groups etc. depending what is asked for.

PALS support people to work through their issues and offer solutions on how to take them forward. PALS liaise, mediate and negotiate on behalf of people to resolve problems raised and will advise people on what course of action is open to them.

PALS does not investigate formal complaints it focuses on resolving issues before they become formal complaints, as well as dealing with questions, suggestions and concerns. PALS can explain the complaints process to patients, their carers and families and help them think through their options.

Complaint on the other hand manage complaints formally inline with the complaint regulations 2009. They can also deal with informal complaints for people who do not wish to use the formal route.
